Ranking the 14 tremendous Georgia football wins by importance
Of course, the most important win of the season has to be the one that earned Georgia football their first national championship in 41 years. The Dawgs beat Alabama 33-18 in Indianapolis, and nothing trumps that, so the only place to put this victory is at the top.
Everything came full circle when Kelee Ringo picked off Bryce Young and ran it back 79 yards to seal the deal. The Dawgs finally dethroned Alabama themselves and ended not one but two droughts in one night.
After going winless against the Tide since 2008, Georgia finally found a way to do it, and yes, it took two tries, but the Dawgs won the game that mattered most.
Like the season started for Georgia, the Dawgs were in a defensive battle for their lives. However, it was for a title this time around, not just to go 1-0.
In the last few games against Alabama, Georgia’s defense struggled to stop the Tide’s high-powered offense, but on Jan. 10, 2022, that defense woke up and put so much pressure on Young.
Georgia sacked him four times but pressured him 40 times, which clearly made him uncomfortable. The Dawgs did a great job in coverage and preventing big plays that usually fuel the Alabama machine.
Instead, a former walk-on and his offense took advantage of those big moments. In the fourth quarter, starting quarterback Stetson Bennett became a legend by helping the Dawgs score two crucial touchdowns.
Then Ringo made the most significant interception of his career and took it to the house.
This game got rid of any demons attached to Georgia sports and proved that Georgia could get over the hump and that Smart could beat his mentor.
All 14 wins were crucial to the success of the 2021 Georgia football team, but that title game trumps them all. This season was so memorable and will be one that fans young and old will remember for a long time.
