Georgia football: Reflecting on 3 of the best Nick Chubb and Sony Michel games
Georgia Football in the 2018 Rose Bowl vs. Oklahoma
Georgia football fans, yall knew this would be on here.
The 2018 Rose Bowl victory against the Oklahoma Sooners will go down as one of the greatest victories in the history of Georgia football. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are a reason for this fond memory.
After trailing 31-17 at halftime to Heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield and his Sooners, Georgia’s offense came out swinging in the second half, with Chubb and Michel leading the way.
On Georgia’s first offensive possession in the third quarter, Chubb outran the Sooner’s defense on his way to a 50-yard touchdown run, trimming the Bulldogs’ deficit to one score.
Not to be outdone, Michel took the ball 38 yards to the house later in the third quarter, tying the game in the process.
After Chubb tied the game with less than a minute in the fourth quarter, the game went into overtime, followed by a second overtime. Georgia blocked an Oklahoma field goal, guaranteeing that the Dawgs would win on any score. On 2nd and 12, while lined up in the “Wild-Dawg” formation, Sony Michel gave us an all-time great Georgia moment.
The Dawgs would win the game 54-48, giving them their first CFP Semifinal victory and their first Rose Bowl win since the Wally Butts-Frank Sinkwich era. It also guaranteed Georgia a spot in the National Championship game in Atlanta. Even though that game didn’t go Georgia’s way, it did not lessen the incredible season that the Dawgs had put together.
Michel ended up with 181 yards, three rushing touchdowns on 11 carries, and a receiving TD. That performance earned Sony the 2018 Rose Bowl offensive MVP. Chubb finished the game with 14 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
These two Dawg legends provided some of our favorite Georgia football memories, memories that Dawg fans will remember for the rest of time. Comment below some of your favorite Chubb/Michel moments.
