6. Jalen Carter’s blocked field goal in the national championship

What could be the most controversial moment on this list — the blocked field goal in the national championship comes in at No. 6 because without that momentum swing from Jalen Carter’s big paw hitting that ball and making the Tide miss, who knows how that game would have gone.

Alabama marched down the field in the third quarter, with Georgia showing signs of fatigue. However, the Dawgs found a way to stop the Tide and force another field goal. With 3:18 on the clock, Will Reichard lined up for a 48-yard attempt.

Jalen Carter pushed his way through and got his big hand on that ball, which made the Tide miss it. By blocking that field goal, the Dawgs got a much-needed momentum boost.

With 3:18 to go in the third quarter, the Dawgs got to work. Cook took off for 67 yards to start the drive. Stetson Bennett rushed for four yards on first down, and then Kenny McIntosh ran for six yards to get it to the one-yard line.

Zamir White punched it in and gave the Dawgs a 13-9 lead over the Tide. Georgia finally broke into the end zone, and a lot of the momentum should get credited to Carter for blocking that kick. It honestly was one of the many turning points in the game, but the one where the offense finally capitalized off an Alabama mistake and realized they could compete with the Tide.

If Alabama didn’t miss that field goal, it would have been 12-6, which could have been just enough to deflate Georgia. The game could have shifted entirely in Alabama’s direction if they made that 48-yarder, but thankfully that didn’t happen, and the football gods were finally on Georgia’s side.

Instead, the sophomore earned his second blocked kick of the season and made sure he got the ball back into his offense’s hands for what would be the drive that finally gave the Dawgs some hope on offense.
