5. AD Mitchell’s 40-yard touchdown in the national championship

Much like fellow true freshman Brock Bowers, AD Mitchell has more than one entry on this list of best moments, including two in the top-5, and rightfully so. Even though he dealt with some freshman tendencies early on in the season, his most significant plays came at the right time.

The No. 5 best moment came in the national championship when starting quarterback Stetson Bennett connected with Mitchell on a 40-yard touchdown pass to give the Dawgs a 19-18 lead over Alabama early in the fourth quarter.

It was a free play because the Tide jumped offsides, and thankfully James Cook laid a perfect block so Bennett could take advantage of the moment, and the youngster made a great catch. He had to work for it because it wasn’t Bennett’s best throw, but Mitchell held onto it to make sure it counted as a score.

After Bennett’s unfortunate fumble resulted in Alabama scoring, Georgia needed a spark, so this explosive touchdown pass gave the Dawgs just that. After this initial spark, the Tide attempted to get back the momentum, but Georgia wouldn’t let this title game slip away from them.

Mitchell proved that he could make the big play on the biggest stage in college football. This touchdown gave Georgia fans hope that the impossible could happen, and unsurprisingly it came from a true freshman.
