Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will be the second Georgia football quarterback to start in a Super Bowl, but he will put his name in the Dawgs’ history books by becoming the first to win one as a starter.
The first was Fran Tarkenton in 1977 for the Minnesota Vikings. Zeke Bratkowski was another Georgia quarterback on a Super Bowl team when the Packers won Super Bowl I and II, but he didn’t start.
He was the No.1 overall pick, yet some fans disrespect him for not having more success with the Lions. Stafford deserves to win this Super Bowl after 12 long seasons in Detriot and to prove to the football world that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Georgia football may have a long history with the Super Bowl, but Matthew Stafford could make history by winning.
There wasn’t much he could do during his time there, but now that he is with a team willing to get him the playmakers around him to be successful, look what happened. The Rams did whatever it took to put together a team good enough to make it back to a Super Bowl, and now they have one of the best shots ever to make it happen.
Stafford eliminated the GOAT Tom Brady and his precious Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then stopped Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers in the NFC Championship last night.
Now he and the Rams will take on a confident Joey Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, who haven’t been to a Super Bowl since 1989, so both teams will be hungry to win this one.

However, Stafford has waited 12 years to be a part of a Super Bowl-winning team, and Burrow has only been in the league for two seasons. Even though it would be neat to see the young man win an SEC Championship, national championship, Heisman Trophy, be the No.1 overall pick, and Super Bowl within three seasons, it’s time for Stafford to win something.
On the other hand, Stafford was the No.1 overall pick in 2009 after being at Georgia for three seasons, where he left with a 30-9 record, including the 2008 Sugar Bowl and 2009 Capital One Bowl.
Stafford had a successful career, but not quite as Burrow did once, he got to LSU. The former Dawg hasn’t had much success in league with just two 10-plus win seasons at Detroit, but Stafford has racked up the stats.
He has 49,995 career yards, 323 touchdowns, 161 interceptions, and has completed 63% of his passes. Stafford will surpass a significant milestone in the Super Bowl when he hits 50,000 career passing yards, so why not add a ring to the equation as well.
Stafford deserves it more because he has to deal with far more adversity than Burrow, and it’s time for the kid to have some humble pie.
Georgia football won the national championship, the Atlanta Braves won the World Series, and now it’s time for the former Dawg to win a Super Bowl.
It is the year of the Dawg, so while the 21 straight years of having a Dawg play in the Super Bowl, it’s only fitting that Stafford becomes the first Georgia quarterback to win one.
