Georgia football signs the best DL and DB classes overall

Another reason Georgia found success on National Signing Day is by landing the best defensive line and defensive back class in the recruiting cycle.

The rankings may not state this, but if you look at who Georgia landed, those rankings don’t matter because it proves they got the best options out there.

Georgia doesn’t just pick up big names anymore. Instead, head coach Kirby Smart and his coaching staff deep dive into these kids and see what kind of person they are.

High-character kids are what the Dawgs want. They want players who are talented on the football field and succeed off the field.

The Dawgs signed five defensive backs and seven defensive linemen.

Georgia added 5-star athlete Malaki Starks, 5-star corner Daylen Everette, 5-star corner Jaheim Singletary, 4-star safety JaCorey Thomas and 4-star corner Julian Humphrey.

Those five guys are so highly talented that it is almost unfair Georgia got all of them. It doesn’t matter that they aren’t the No.1 ranked player in their positions. Singletary is No.5, Everette is No. 6, and Humphrey is No. 9. Starks is the No.1 athlete.

Four of the five defensive backs rank inside the top-10 of their positions, which is astounding. The Dawgs have grabbed talented defensive backs before, but this is a new level and one that includes players who aren’t selfish.

They want to play for Georgia and each other because they know Georgia puts players in the NFL by now.

The Dawgs needed depth in the secondary, and they got it with these five players. They also have the chance to learn from some veteran players still in Athens, along with Kelee Ringo, who, as a sophomore, is already busting down the doors.

Georgia will have the best secondary in the country, and it won’t be close. The Dawgs also got the defensive linemen that complement their defensive scheme. These athletic monsters will open up holes for the linebackers and get to the quarterback themselves.

Five-star defensive lineman Mykel Williams headlines this unit as the country’s No. 4 overall player and No.2 defensive linemen.

Bear Alexander, a 4-star from IMG Academy, is the No. 8 defensive lineman, and then when you pair him up with Christen Miller, that duo will bully offensive linemen for the next few years.

Shone Washington is the fourth defensive linemen of this class, and the three-star from New Orleans is beefy and will benefit from Tray Scott’s guidance.

This trio of guys is replacing those leaving, and while they haven’t done what those playmakers are going to have, their talent and ceiling levels tell me they can.

Darris Smith is a long edge rusher with great size and length, and we cannot forget about Marvin Jones Jr., a 5-star edge rusher that Georgia got a surprise from on Early Signing Day.

Carlton Madden is the other edge rusher that Georgia landed out and Miller’s teammate.

This group is stacked and the future of Georgia’s defense. They all want to play with each other and compete against each other.

Georgia signed the best talent for what they needed, proving they signed the best defensive backs and defensive linemen classes of 2022.
