Georgia football recruited with the right message

One of the newest trends in recruiting was at the forefront of the 2022 cycle — NIL deals.

Rumors suggest that Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher used them to land the class he did. We can’t prove that, but we can appreciate that head coach Kirby Smart has a different message for these players.

While it’s okay for players to sign NIL deals, and they should get paid for what they do in college, there are other ways to do it, and Smart knows it.

After National Signing Day, Smart addressed the media, and he said that he had a different pitch for the players.

Georgia developed 3-star Jordan Davis, and countless other players are how Georgia should recruit. By selling stories of development, they are staying genuine with players and keeping it on a level that shouldn’t get out of hand.

They have incredible facilities, the coaching staff, and even the national championship trophy, but it doesn’t matter because of how the NIL affects recruiting.

However, Georgia decided to keep recruiting the way that works, and hopefully, they keep doing that. Smart wants players willing to put in the work to make it into the NFL, and sometimes those players chasing NIL deals aren’t the right fit.

Georgia football doesn’t have to rely on NIL deals to sign talented players, for now at least, and that could change, but Smart’s message weighs more than the money.
