Georgia football rumors: is Jahmile Addae leaving the Dawgs?
Georgia football has a staff of talented coaches, and since the national championship victory, it seems every team wants a piece of this group. The latest rumors suggest that Jahmile Addae, the Dawgs’ defensive backs coach, could leave Athens for Miami.
UGASports, the Georgia Rivals’ website, reported from the Miami Rivals’ site that Addae is expected to join Mario Cristobal to be the Hurricanes’ secondary coach.
Addae is from south Florida so the move would make sense, but at the same time, he just got to Athens a year ago and signed the best defensive back class to ever come to Georgia.
The Dawgs poached Addae from West Virginia, where he also coached the defensive backs and brought Tykee Smith with him to Athens.
Georgia football could see its defensive back coach Jahmile Addae leave for Miami.
Head coach Kirby Smart likely already has a plan in place if this happens, and there have been some rumors since the title game that Addae could leave but to only stay a year at a place you just won a ring doesn’t seem right.
While he had the defensive back coach title, Addae mostly worked with the cornerbacks, especially when Will Muschamp took over the on-field coaching role for Scott Cochran.
Georgia allowed 190.1 yards through the air and finished as the No.2 pass defense in the SEC behind South Carolina.
Not to mention, under Addae, the Dawgs finished with 16 interceptions, with was No. 1 in the SEC and No. 8 in college football.
However, where it would hurt the most is on the recruiting trail. Addae finished as the No.2 recruiter on 247Sports rankings as he signed six guys for the 2022 class with an average rating of 96.93.
Nothing is set in stone yet, and they are still rumors for now, but it is something to watch. If this decision happens, we will update who the Dawgs will target to replace Addae.
