The next Georgia football 2022 recruiting class member to discuss is 3-star linebacker, EJ Lightsey.

Georgia finished with the No.3 overall class in 2022, signing six 5-stars, 14 4-stars, and nine 3-stars.

Lightsey was a late addition to this class but one the Dawgs should be happy to have. Losing the linebackers they did after the 2021 season, Lightsey can give that position some depth.

He can also give the Dawgs another headhunter like Channing Tindall was. When you watch his film, it screams Tindall, and with Glenn Schumann coaching, this young man will be a monster.

Georgia football fans, it’s time we introduce the 2022 class, and today it’s EJ Lightsey.

At 6-2 and 210-pounds, he is just a few pounds lighter than Tindall. They have a similar style and play with an aggressive edge.

Despite being 247Sports Composite rankings having him as the No. 494 overall player, the No. 47 linebacker and No. 49 player out of Georiga, this young man is better than those rankings suggest.

Lightsey committed to Florida initially but decomitted on Dec. 11. He took an official visit to Georgia on Jan. 21, then Kirby Smart visited him right before National Signing Day, and it was a match made in heaven.

It didn’t matter that he was a late addition or a 3-star. The Dawgs’ staff saw something in him and got the job done to get him on the team.

Lightsey is strong and shows great awareness. He has great closing speed and strong tackling abilities.

Schumann will enjoy having this one on the team because he is a diamond in the rough. Once he has time to help him develop some, he will be one of the next linebackers team fear.

Lightsey is a stud, and another guy, the Dawgs, stole out of the 2022 recruiting cycle.

How EJ Lightsey fits in with Georgia football

Georgia loses Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker and Channing Tindall to the NFL Draft. That trio of linebackers were huge playmakers and contributors for the Dawgs, so losing them is a big loss.

However, the Dawgs have done a great job picking up the depth at this position to keep this group elite.

A few players ahead of Lightsey will likely be more ready than him by the time the season gets here, but give this one a year or so, and he will be competing for significant playing time.

An EJ Lightsey prediction for 2022

Lightsey could end up redshirting for the 2022 season, but if he adapts to the playbook well and competes well, he could see some playing time during the blowouts.

Players have four games they can play in before redshirting, and the Dawgs will make sure they get that in for these guys. It’s important to see how they adapt in game-time situations, so if Lightsey needs more time, he will redshirt, or he could shock the world.

After losing some of their best defensive players, Georgia football added great depth to the linebacker position. Lightsey is one to keep an eye on because he could be a surprise while he will be down the depth chart.
