Georgia football: Brock Bowers is out for spring, but it opens opportunities
Georgia football starting tight end Brock Bowers will be out for the spring after having surgery on his labrum.
This injury nagged him toward the end of the season, and now that the offseason is in full swing, he can finally begin to heal.
While this injury news feels like a big blow to the Dawgs, it seems like Bowers will be back in time for fall camp.
Dawg Daily initially reported it, and Dawg Nation followed up with the news.
Georgia football will lose Brock Bowers temporarily to heal from surgery.
This type of surgery is no stranger to the Dawgs as a handful of players in the last two years have gone through it — Nakobe Dean and MJ Sherman last spring and two 2022 signees CJ Madden and Bear Alexander this spring.
Bowers led the Dawgs last season with 56 catches for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns.
With him missing the spring, now the Dawgs can focus on implementing Darnell Washington more into the game plan. The 6-7 tight end had 10 catches for 154 yards and one touchdown.
Someone of his size should have more touches than 10 catches in 11 games. Now he will have the chance while Bowers works on rehabbing that shoulder and getting healthy.
Washington can work with tight ends coach Todd Hartley and passing game coordinator Bryan McClendon to develop and get more touches for him. To be as big as he is, it’s time he uses that to his advantage. He could be such a massive weapon for the Dawgs, and Bowers being off gives the coaches time to test some things this spring.
Georgia also has Oscar Delp, an early enrollee for the 2022 class. They can work into the mix of things while Bowers is on the mend. The Dawgs have plenty of options to work with while Bowers cannot be out there, and it’s only going to make this offense stronger.
