Georgia basketball hasn’t had a great week, which, unfortunately, includes the Lady Dogs. Despite falling to Auburn and giving the Tigers their second SEC win of the season, this group of ladies is better than they’ve played in recent weeks.

Georgia’s Lady Dogs could shock the world and make a deep run in the SEC Tournament coming up in the next few weeks if we want to get bold.

They may have lost four of the last five games, but they face some of the league’s best programs. A loss is a loss, but the potential this team has is still there. It’s just about cleaning up some of the mistakes they continue to make.

The Lady Dogs shouldn’t have fallen to Florida or Auburn today, but these losses are the ones that wake a team up and remind them what their long-term goal is.

Georgia basketball will shock in the SEC women’s tournament.

South Carolina could be on their way to another SEC title and a national championship with their squad, but Georgia isn’t out of it yet.

Que Morrison and Jenna Staiti are the leaders of this team, and they know what it takes to be successful. Those two ladies who came back for their super senior year have to rally this group and remind them how good they are.

Mikayla Coombs could also be someone to include in this leadership group because the Dawgs are almost unstoppable when she’s on.

The Lady Dogs can finish this regular season with 20 wins if they get back to playing the basketball they did back at the beginning of the season. It wasn’t little wins either — they beat No. 18 Notre Dame to start the season, then beat No. 2 North Carolina State in their house.

Sure they’ve fallen to LSU and South Carolina twice, but those are the two best programs in the SEC. They lost to Tennessee, who is likely the No. 3 SEC women’s program, but then it’s Georgia.

The Lady Dogs don’t need to hang their heads but instead, get back to work. That SEC tournament has proven in the past that anything can happen, and it will work with the right program. Georgia could be that team by choosing to be that gritty, scrappy aggressive group we all know they are when playing their best ball.

Georgia is currently 18-8 on the season and 7-7 in SEC play with two regular-season games — a road matchup against Arkansas and a home finale against Texas A&M.

That men’s team doesn’t stand a chance, so instead of giving up on Georgia basketball, Dawg fans need to channel their energy into the Lady Dogs because they can make the tournament if they finish strong.

They deserve the support as this group of ladies do things the right way and play Georgia basketball the way it should be. Now, it’s time to practice the mistakes and get them right.

Rally the troops and play with a chip on their shoulder because, on the right day, these Lady Dogs could wind up shocking the women’s basketball world.
