The Colts have a solid offensive line and one of the top running backs in the NFL, but the passing game as a whole needs work. George Pickens could be the receiver that helps get their air-game to the level they want it to be.

The rollercoaster that is the Carson Wentz experience could be ending for Indy, but they will need receivers to throw no matter who lines up under center.

Michael Pittman Jr. was the lone bright spot for the Colts’ wide receiver room, racking up 1082 yards and six touchdowns on 88 receptions. The drop-off after Pittman was massive, with no other player even reaching 400 receiving yards.

Jonathan Taylor was the team’s third-leading receiver as a running back with only 360 yards. The offense was built to operate around Taylor. Still, such minimal production at the wide receiver position is not a recipe for success, evidenced by the Colts’ complete collapse to miss the playoffs.

Pickens has a smaller frame than Pittman, but with the Colts’ dedication to the run game, featuring two big and physical receivers could make a lot of sense.

The quarterback position is a big question mark moving forward for Indy, but the team is built to win now, and the front office has shown a willingness to make moves to support those goals.

The biggest question regarding Pickens would be the Colts bringing in a receiver from free agency, as they will likely be in on most candidates. Until the Wentz situation gets resolved, though, it’s hard to imagine any big-name wide receivers being eager to jump on board.

If that proves to be the case, Pickens could spend time developing until a more permanent solution at quarterback is found.
