3: 2001 Georgia football vs. Tennessee

Another moment in Knoxville is up next for Georgia football on this epic road game win list. This victory game was in head coach Mark Richt’s first year when the Dawgs beat Tennessee 26-21.

Yes, this is the Hobnail Boot game, the legendary call from longtime radio announcer Larry Munson. Georgia and Tennessee went back and forth throughout the game. For every point the Dawgs scored, Tennessee responded somehow.

One of the biggest reasons we put this game on this list is the call, but that touchdown play was the perfect call to make right there, and the score proved it. That call, though, is perfection and anyone who associates themselves with the Dawgs just about has this Munson call memorized.

Starting quarterback David Greene threw a six-yard pass across the middle to Verron Haynes for a touchdown with 10 seconds remaining.

This score gave Georgia the two-point victory and told the fans that Greene would be the next special quarterback to wear the Red and Black.

Georgia fans still celebrate this win in the various hype videos shown during pregame at Sanford Stadium, but to go into Knoxville and beat the No. 6 team in the country with a young quarterback was epic. Tennessee hasn’t been the same since the hobnail boot incident, and it’s pretty satisfying to know the Dawgs delivered that blow.
