Georgia football starts spring practice on March 15, and 18 early enrollees from the 2022 recruiting class will get a chance to show why the Dawgs brought them into the program.

One of the most important positions the Dawgs needed to bring in was the defensive line, especially at defensive tackle. Losing Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt is a significant loss for the Dawgs because they were crucial pieces on the defense the last few years.

While Georgia still has Jalen Carter up front and a couple of other guys that could become playmakers, signing a big 2022 class was important.

Georgia finished the 2022 recruiting cycle with 29 members and ranked No. 3 on 247Sports team rankings. Among those 29 signees, seven of them were defensive linemen.

All seven are early enrollees too, which means they’re already on-campus learning from Tray Scott and the other coaches.

Georgia football signed a big defensive line class, but these two are key depth providers for 2022.

The two guys who will provide the defensive tackle position some extra depth are Bear Alexander and Shone Washington.

These two are physically massive, and their talent potential is almost as enormous.

Alexander came out of high school as a 4-star defensive lineman that played his high school ball at IMG Academy. At 6-3 and 315-pounds, he ranked as the No. 50 overall player, the No. 9 defensive linemen and the No. 9 player out of Florida.

He initially committed to Georgia, decommitted for a while, and some thought Texas A&M would snag him, but instead, Alexander stuck with his original commitment.

Alexander already has the college size to play on the interior defensive front. He is punchy, extremely physical off the snap and has an excellent ability to shed tackles in passing and running situations. However, he did undergo surgery once he got to Athens, which means he will miss spring practice.

While he isn’t playing this spring, Alexander is the kind of player that can still push himself up the lineup if he can. It sucks to see him not able to compete this spring, but getting healthy is the first step in the right direction.

He came to Athens early to get a head start, and this injury won’t set him back too much. Alexander has the size Georgia wants up front, and the defense is likely to use multiple players behind Carter to see who competes for that spot the hardest.

Washington is the other guy who will provide depth at this defensive tackle position. A New Orleans native, some thought Washington would go to LSU, but it appears he likes what Scott and the rest of the staff are doing.

He is 6-3 and 297-pounds committed to the Dawgs in November. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he was the No. 84 defensive linemen and the No. 29 player out of Louisiana. He was a 3-star, but that doesn’t matter because you can correct and develop, but you can’t coach size.

Washington is a big guy that has a similar size to Alexander. That size will allow him to push people back and bust through offensive lines. He could use some work on his technique, but he is also naturally talented.

*Mind you, this video is when he initially committed to LSU, but he did choose the Dawgs.*

He will get a head start this spring as he will get to practice and compete, but it seems like a redshirt could happen for now.

Washington is a diamond in the rough, in my opinion. He will probably grow some more into his body, and with the proper nutritional program, that weight will get where he needs it to be.

Georgia has guys behind Carter who have experience, but something about this 2022 recruiting class screams greatness.

Next. Six Georgia football players easily saw their NFL stock surge. dark

These guys could shock some people and even beat older guys for playing time if they continue to grow this offseason.
