Georgia football will see its 2022 signees and other youngsters battle it out

After the 2021 season saw Georgia football get bit by the injury bug, we will finally see a lot of those injured Dawgs return this spring. Not to mention the 18 early enrollees from the 2022 recruiting class that will be around to compete.

Georgia returns starting quarterback Stetson Bennett, who will likely keep his job, but that doesn’t mean Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton won’t battle it out for the backup role.

Every position group will see competitive battles this spring because, outside the quarterback, almost all will need guys willing to step up and beat out everyone for the starting role.

Those 18 early enrollees consist of defensive linemen, linebackers, defensive backs, offensive linemen, receivers, running backs, and a quarterback that are all extremely talented and ready to show these older players what they are capable of doing.

Guys like Christen Miller could battle his way into the defensive line mix. Then there is Mykel Williams, a defensive end who could get serious playing time in 2022. Now is the time for them to assert their dominance and prove they are worthy of respect.

Georgia will also see the defensive back group look to replace the likes of Lewis Cine and Derion Kendrick. While there are a lot of guys returning there, the youngsters are ready to compete and make the veterans uncomfortable.

This group of youngsters is hungry, and we’re not just talking about the 2022 signing class, but the rising sophomores and juniors who are ready to take on more prominent roles. This competition battle across the board will quickly show what kind of team the 2022 one will be.
