Georgia football signed so many incredible 2022 athletes, but one of the biggest wildcards is defensive back Julian Humphrey.
He is one of the members of what could likely be the most outstanding defensive back classes Georgia has ever signed.
We’ve discussed Jahiem Singletary, Daylen Everette, and the versatile duo Malaki Starks and JaCorey Thomas, but how can we go without talking about Humphrey. He is going to be one of the most fun to watch.
Georgia football will see Julian Humphrey be the biggest wildcard of the 2022 class.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Humphrey came out of high school as the No. 81 overall, No. 9 cornerback and the No. 13 player out of Texas.
A one-time Florida commit, Humphrey flipped to the Dawgs and signed with the good guys.
Humphrey has great twitch and burst with long arms that match his size. He has the size at 6-1 and 185-pounds but could use a little extra weight. Even adding a little excess weight wouldn’t change the great speed that he already possesses.
His size also benefits him in any coverage. With his speed, Humphrey can keep up with the quicker wideouts. His vision is also worth noting because its great with handling certain wideout moves.
Humphrey has excellent instincts and is willing to sacrifice his body to make the play. He hasn’t reached his full potential, so Fran Brown should have fun developing him.
How Julian Humphrey fits in at Georgia football?
He is a wildcard because of his size and sheer physical talent. Humphrey has the tangibles to make a great corner.
Georgia has depth in front of him, but Humphrey can push his way into the rotation if he takes the initiative and quickly works on the minor things he needs to improve.
He isn’t on campus yet but will join the team during summer workouts. So this spring, he should work on adding a little more weight and just making sure he is fine-tuning his tackling abilities.
Humphrey excites us because he has so much potential and a high ceiling. He has the size, the speed, and now it’s time to put him to work and see what he can do. He is also a wildcard because where he fits depends on how hard he wants to compete.
Georgia signed a fully-loaded defensive back class, and Humphrey can hold his own in it. While he wasn’t a five-star, he is a highly touted four-star guy that has the capabilities to be elite if he is willing to grow and develop into one.
