There were so many injuries during the 2021 season for Georgia football that it forced younger guys to step up, and that fate ultimately helped the Dawgs win a national championship.
The 2022 squad faces similar adversity, with injuries occurring at multiple positions. Some players are recovering from surgery in the offseason, and others have already gotten hurt in practice. It’s still extremely early in spring practice, but the injuries are already piling up, and that is never a good feeling.
Multiple signees from the 2022 class have gone down with injuries or had surgery, so Georgia is extremely thin in some places regarding depth. There is a lot of time left until Fall Camp and the season, but having a good idea on the team during spring practice is usually good to know.
However, Georgia will have to work with the players they have and push these younger guys to step up to be ready at a moment’s notice.
Georgia football will test its teams’ ability to overcome adversity with all these injuries.
The latest player to go down with an injury is freshman linebacker CJ Washington. Reports dropped on Friday that the youngster went down with an injury during practice and will likely miss the remainder of spring practice.
Other reports stated that tight end Ryland Goede went down with a knee injury, so he will be down for the remainder of spring. That leaves the tight end room extremely thin and down to three scholarship guys.
These two names are just the latest to join the already too-long injury list for the Dawgs. Other players on that include:
- Brock Bowers, TE
- Darnell Washington, TE
- Tykee Smith, DB
- Rian Davis, LB
- Smael Mondon, LB
- Bear Alexander, DL
- Jacob Hood, OL
- C.J. Madden, DL
- Griffin Scroggs, OL
- C.J. Smith, WR
- Arian Smith, WR
Some of these guys are out for the remainder of spring. Others can do some stuff but are limited. These injuries are not ideal, but they do happen in football, so teams have to find people willing to step up in their absence.
Georgia has many talented players who need this opportunity to get better and prove to themselves that they can be contributors.
Injuries aren’t ideal, but hopefully, most of those guys listed can get better for Fall Camp and into the season. That time is when Georgia will need them most, but having them for spring is beneficial too because it’s when all the bonding truly happens.
Georgia football will look for guys to step up this spring as the injuries pile up, but the best thing about having this kind of adversity is seeing how well this team can overcome it.
