Georgia football has a strong reputation for having the best running backs in college, and the 2022 class is up to par with the expectations.
The Dawgs are known as RBU for a reason, and it’s because they know how to utilize the running backs to their advantage and continue to send them into the NFL.
Georgia inked two running backs in the 2022 recruiting class in 4-star Branson Robinson and 3-star Andrew Paul. Both are versatile backs who add incredible talent to a room that needs that kind of depth.
They are two of the 29 members of this class that finished No.3 in the country and one of the Dawgs’ best recruiting classes in head coach Kirby Smart’s tenure. We’ve touched on how Robinson could break into the lineup this year, but what about Paul? Will he redshirt, or could he be another running back that sees the field?
Georgia football adds the undervalued Andrew Paul to its running back room.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Paul came out of high school as the No. 54 RB and the No.27 player out of Texas. He wasn’t a massively sought-after recruit, but when anyone watches his film from Paul’s senior year, it’s clear why Georgia signed him.
Right after the Dawgs signed him in February, we called him the steal of the 2022 class, and that opinion is still something we stand behind because the kid has no idea how good he is.
Paul has excellent vision and speed. He knows how to make people miss, and his downfield ability to outrun opponents is evident. Running back coach Dell McGee has a kid willing to put in the work, which is one of the big reasons Georgia got him.
He is a high-character kid that is still improving every time he puts his hand on the football.
Watching his film should excite the entire Dawg Nation because his size, matched with his speed, will give Georgia a running back it hasn’t seen or had in a while. Paul has the agility to make plays when things look like they should be ending, and it’s clear that his football IQ is on the rise.
McGee has found a diamond in the rough, and getting him to Athens was one of the biggest recruiting wins of the 2022 class. His ability to break tackles is also something that excites us too. Not to mention he isn’t afraid to run over someone.
Georgia could use him right away, but at the same time, with Kendall Milton and Kenny McIntosh ahead of him, the Dawgs could save him. Plus, Daijun Edwards is another name for him who has the experience that could see the reps, but we will see what he does this summer and fall camp.
Not to mention, Robinson, his 2022 signing partner, has a ton of talent, so Georgia has a good problem in the running back room. These two signees could see some time on special teams if they prove themselves, and that is where Smart tests what kinds of players he has.
Georgia football has running backs that understand it’s all about sharing the load and learning from each other. From the newly signees to the guys finally getting their opportunity, trusting the process is what this room will do.
