Georgia football starting quarterback Stetson Bennett has a large family, and now there will be one more Bennett boy on the Dawgs’ roster in his younger brother Luke.

Before Georgia fans jump off the deep end, Stetson’s brother plays receiver so that the quarterback room is safe.

Luke Bennett announced on Thursday on his Twitter that he will walk on with the Dawgs this fall.

Georgia football adds a Bennett brother to the team.

Bennett played his high school career at Pierce County High School in south Georgia. He caught nine passes for 179 yards and three scores during his senior season.

He was a member of the 2020 Pierce County state championship team, the school’s first title in the program’s history. The Bears beat Oconee County 13-6 in overtime of the 3A title game.

Bennett was a junior on that team, and he tallied 13 catches for 220 yards and one score averaging 16.9 yards a catch with a long of 86 yards.

In three years of varsity ball, Bennett had 33 catches for 638 yards, eight touchdowns and averaged 19.3 yards a catch. He wasn’t the Bears’ most sought-after target, but he did his part.

He has seen what his brother, Stetson, has done with the team and now will give it a shot himself. It’s exciting to see another Bennett brother on the team, especially in the receiver room. The Dawgs can use some extra guys at that position, so having able bodies will bode well.

Stetson Bennett came to Georgia as a walk-on and became a fan favorite for imitating Baker Mayfield during the Dawgs’ Rose Bowl preparations. He left for a season and then returned.

Since getting back to Athens, Stetson has seen his fair share of love and hate from the fanbase, but he did lead the Dawgs to their first national championship in 41-years, so he is a legend regardless of what some think.

His younger brother will follow in those footsteps, and Bryan McClendon will be a great coach for the young receiver. McClendon can help Luke Bennett become a great teammate for the Dawgs, but it won’t be an easy path because his big brother is the starting quarterback.

Bennett will have to earn his spot if he wants to see the field, but the way his older brother is, it’ll be interesting to see if that tenacious gene runs in the family. Georgia football knows what his brother will do, so it’s understandable to give Luke a shot at walking on to see what he brings to the table.
