#3: Georgia football defeats Florida 42-30

One of the best moments in the entire 2007 Georgia football season had to be when the Dawgs went to Jacksonville and danced their way to a 42-30 upset victory over their arch enemies, the Florida Gators.

This game is one we’ve discussed in length because of that massive celebration where the entire team rushed the endzone after starting running back Knowshon Moreno scored a 1-yard touchdown.

Florida was the defending national champions after beating Ohio State 41-14, so beating them was such a pivotal moment for the Dawgs. While head coach Mark Richt didn’t have the best record against the Gators, this win prevented Florida from winning six straight.

This series goes in streaks, usually three wins at a time, but the Dawgs finally were able to get the best of the Gators in 2007. Georgia wouldn’t beat Florida again until 2011, but this win was in the back of fans’ and donors’ minds because they knew it was possible.

To beat the Gators when Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow were there is a moral win and one that will forever sit in Dawg fans’ minds. This victory showed it was possible to beat Florida regardless of how good they were at the time.

Florida had Georgia’s number at this time in the series history, but it wouldn’t be long until the Dawgs reversed the roles, and this series became competitive again.

By being free and not caring what the referees thought, Georgia was able to gain some much-needed confidence.
