This weekend, Georgia baseball showed no mercy to the Florida Gators as the Dawgs destroyed one of their biggest rivals.

The Dawgs were red hot from the plate, recording 35 hits in the three games, but their pitching was able to come up strong too.

This sweep was the second straight against the Gators at Foley Field, as they also swept them in 2019. It was also the first SEC sweep of the year and the first SEC home sweep since the Dawgs did it against Alabama in 2019.

Georgia baseball is the latest Dawg program to provide a sweet defeat to the Gators.

The Dawgs move to 22-6 overall on the season and 6-3 in SEC play. After a tough time in Lexington, this series win was a big one for the Dawgs. However, this team showed just how gritty it could be, and if they want to win it bad enough — they will.

Thursday’s Game 1 saw the Dawgs win 7-6 with a two-out walk-off double from Josh McAllister. The game provided quite the call from Jeff Dantzler on the call. Georgia recorded 11 hits that night, and it was the start of what would be an incredible weekend.

Ben Anderson started things off that night with a lead-off solo home run, and after that spark, the Gators couldn’t extinguish the Dawgs’ momentum.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Parks Harber also hit a homer in the bottom, giving two on Hunter Barco in four innings. Before those two homers, he had given up just two in 38.1 innings pitched.

The Dawgs weren’t done hitting homers on Thursday as Chaney Rogers also got one in the sixth inning, which helped the Dawgs get right back into the game. This walk-off win marked the third of the season, but it was probably the most exciting because it was against the Gators.

Game 2 saw the Dawgs beat Florida 6-1 on Friday night when Jonathan Cannon put together another strong performance on the mound.

However, the Dawgs also saw 11 hits Friday night too, so it was a total team effort.

Cannon improved to 6-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.71 through 47.1 innings. He has 46 strikeouts and just three walks on the year, two of them coming on Friday night. The first was an intentional walk earlier in the season.

Against the Gators, he struck out three batters and walked two. Those are the stats Cannon puts up because that is the kind of pitcher he is on the mound.

Nothing about Cannon and his performance on the mound was a joke as the Dawgs didn’t have to worry about any tom-foolery on Friday night.

Georgia just did a fantastic job defensively against the Gators on Friday night, and Florida couldn’t get much going. The Dawgs did a great job scoring runs with they needed to while the Gators couldn’t. Florida saw eight hits in Game 2 but would only score once.

It was scoreless through five innings until the Dawgs opened the flood gates with three runs in the sixth inning and three in the eighth.

Georgia put together a tough victory, and it just increased their confidence. They did that against Mississippi State but fell apart in Game 3. Instead of doing that against the Gators, Georgia kicked up the volume a few notches and demoralized Flordia Saturday afternoon.

The Dawgs came into Saturday’s game laser-focused and ready to get their first SEC sweep.

Former Gator Nolan Crisp got the start for the Dawgs and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Dawgs led 2-1 after the first inning, and then after Florida scored five runs in the fifth inning, they trailed 6-3. Georgia didn’t let Florida’s offensive burst affect them. Instead, they put their head down and got right to work at the plate scoring an incredible eight runs during the seventh inning.

Connor Tate started things off with a single that scored one run, and then a Florida error scored a second run to make it 6-5. McAllister followed it up with a single to score Anderson. Harber hit a single to left field to score Tate, and then the Dawgs scored on three straight home runs.

Blaylock hit a three-run homer, and Fernando Gonzalez hit a solo home run to make it 11-6 and the final run of the seventh inning.

Tate followed up with his own three-run homer to give the final 14-8 score and the Dawgs a sweep over the Gators.

The offense was tremendous on Saturday, and this lineup shows once again just how strong it is across the board. This series was a huge confidence booster for the Dawgs, and they should know that their team is a contender — someone people shouldn’t overlook.

While there are a few more SEC powerhouses to play, the Dawgs are trending in the right direction.

Georgia has a lot of confidence heading into their next game as the Dawgs will head to South Carolina to take on Clemson in a midweek matchup on Tuesday with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.
