Travon Walker is surging in the right direction to go No. 1 in NFL Draft

Georgia football has a chance to see a player go as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in edge rusher Travon Walker, and the odds of that happening rise by the day.

While the rumor mill has been talking about him going first off the big board for a few weeks now, the legitimacy is at an all-time high.

Jacksonville seems highly interested in him, and hopefully, the Jaguars don’t mess up this pick because Walker would make a great addition to their team.

Georgia football can and will see Travon Walker go No.1 in the 2022 NFL Draft.

After Walker put on a show in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine and then another one at the Georgia Pro Day, draft experts finally started paying attention to him. Some refuse to give him the time of day, but they will regret that.

Walker came into this draft process as a junior, with another year that could have helped him, but it’s clear he didn’t need it. He is ready for the NFL and is better than the senior edge rushers available — including Aiden Hutchinson, who is also the one still getting love to go No.1 overall.

He had better stats than Hutchinson in that Orange Bowl game, but that doesn’t matter. Walker also man-handled the Alabama tackle, Evan Neal, who could go high in the draft during the College Football Playoff Championship game.

Georgia football had something special in Travon Walker, and he proves that having hefty stats doesn’t always define who you are as a player. Sure Hutchinson had better stats all around, but he also had one more season under his belt than Walker. Also, he was one of the sole playmakers on that Michigan defense.

Walker shared that playmaker status on the Georgia football defense with five other guys at least. He did the most with the snaps he got and showed that drafting him will only benefit a team. Walker doesn’t realize how good he is and how he isn’t even close to hitting his ceiling, yet we saw with Hutchinson where that ceiling is.

Did anyone see what Walker could do to that Michigan offensive line? The one who won the offensive line of the year award? He and the rest of Georgia’s defense made them look silly.

If Jacksonville doesn’t take Walker at No.1 in this draft, they don’t want success because he is the best choice to help elevate their defense to the level it needs to be.

Georgia football could see 14 guys drafted at the end of the month, shattering school records and getting close to overall records. So if the Dawgs could see him go at No.1, it would be a great start to the 2022 NFL Draft — not to mention a helluva recruiting sell for head coach Kirby Smart himself.
