Georgia football: A full look into the talent-oozing TE/WR positions
One of the most anticipated positions that Georgia football fans will watch for on Saturday is the receiving group or the wideouts and tight ends. We looped these together since the Dawgs aren’t afraid to line up a tight end and send them deep.
With injuries on the tight end front and a few wideouts still getting healthy, Saturday will feature a lot of younger players but also a few familiar faces that can finally contribute again.
The Dawgs have a ton of playmakers at these two positions, so Saturday should be fun to watch because, with the plan to air it out, they will have plenty of chances to make a big moment.
Georgia football receivers will be the stars of the show for the G-Day game.
On Saturday, there will be no Brock Bowers, Darnell Washington, or Ryland Goede for the tight ends, which leaves just three scholarship tight ends — Oscar Delp, Arik Gilbert, and Brett Seither.
While this injury news isn’t surprising because we’ve known about it for a couple of months now, it still stinks to know Georgia’s best receiver won’t be able to have a big G-Day performance. However, that doesn’t define how this season will go for Bowers. Once he gets healthy, it’s safe to say he will pick up where he left off and put together another mind-blowing season.
G-Day should excite fans because it’ll mark the first time Delp and Gilbert will get highlighted as Dawgs. Delp has so much talent it oozes out of him, and the same goes for Gilbert. It’s wild to see this much goodness in the tight end room with Bowers not even a part of the conversation.
Gilbert returned to the team and now can solidify a spot on it. Delp can take advantage of the injuries to show that he is, in fact, another Bowers in the making. Georgia has the best tight end room in college football right now, and that is still with half of it on the injury list.
It would be great to see them each have a couple of big catches and maybe a score or two between these two guys. Saturday is their chance to say, here I am, ready to contribute.
AD Mitchell is back and another year wiser, Ladd McConkey is emerging as a leader and showing a lot of growth, Kearis Jackson returned for another season after last year saw him sidelined with injuries and Dominick Blaylock is finally healthy.
These are four guys who are all proven playmakers back for the Dawgs and give secure options for the quarterbacks to throw to.
Arian Smith continues to get work through his injuries. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint is another that battled through some things last season and now can pick up where he left off.
Then there are the wideouts coming in from the 2022 class who include more speedy guys that have great hands. Guys like C.J. Smith and De’Nylon Morrissette are already on campus and working, so they could get some time to impress on Saturday.
Jackson Meeks is another name to know, and someone head coach Kirby Smart mentioned as a player who continues to grow. This group has guys who need to step up, and Saturday could be the moment they do that.
Receivers and passing game coach Bryan McClendon has strong receivers to work with and plug into different schemes. Among last year’s receivers, not counting Bowers since he won’t play on Saturday, the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and 10th guys are all back and will get looks at G-Day.
Georgia football has a loaded receiving and tight end room that Saturday should feature a lot of passes thrown to a lot of different players. Some will get more reps than others, but the best thing about G-Day is knowing everyone will get their chances, and it’s about who takes advantage of it.
