Georgia football: 3 simple stats that impressed from G-Day
Georgia football saw its first-team defense impress as a whole
Georgia football and its first-team defense showed that it has some players who decided to step up this offseason. This group did what they needed to do on Saturday against the Black Team offense.
As a whole, this group recorded seven tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions and eight pass breakups.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson led the way with seven tackles, including five solo ones. Nolan Smith had four total tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for loss. The veteran showed a lot of experience on Saturday, and it was clear that he and Dumas-Johnson were the leaders.
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins recorded a sack, and Jalen Carter rounded out the guys who tallied a sack during G-Day. Carter recorded a pass breakup and he blocked a kick as well. There isn’t much that young man cannot do, and Saturday showed just how dominant he is.
This defense is stacked even with so many playmakers leaving, but they have to work hard to come together as last year did — if they want to continue being elite, playing as one unit is the key.
Trezman Marshall was one of the biggest surprises as he had two breakups and caught one of the two interceptions. He looked healthy and like someone who got a lot of confidence playing again on Saturday.
This group shows that they still hold themselves to the same standards and have the talent to be elite in 2022.
