Georgia football: It’s simple Stetson Bennett is QB1

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart kept his answer about who the starting quarterback is short and sweet — it’s Stetson Bennett.

After winning the national championship in 2021, Bennett should be Georgia’s guy, even if Carson Beck had a strong performance at G-Day.

During his post-G-Day press conference, the topic of Bennett and the starting role came up, and Smart gave a great answer to the question.

Georgia football has its starting quarterback, and Stetson Bennett will keep delivering for the Dawgs.

Beck had a strong spring game performance, which will bring on the discussion of who the starter should be for Georgia. Even with Bennett winning a national title, some people still question whether he should still be the starter.

"“I don’t have to say Stetson is the quarterback,” Smart said during his press conference after G-Day. “Our team knows that Stetson is our quarterback.”"

That statement closed any door that tried to open on the quarterback discussion, and Smart made the right comment.

There is no reason Bennett shouldn’t be the starter. He led the team, worked his tail off to get where he is now, and Bennett earned the starting role.

Was Bennett perfect during G-Day? No. Neither were Beck, Brock Vandagriff, or Gunner Stockton. However, the way he led the offense and took command of it — there is a reason his teammates love him.

Bennett led the Dawgs to a championship, and yet he is still fighting for acceptance from the fans. He knows this offense backward and forwards. Bennett has relationships with all of these guys, and they love him. It’s time to stop the quarterback discussion and jump on the Bennett train.

ESPN analyst Greg McIlory mentioned during G-Day that it’s a shame a guy who has done what Bennett has is still fighting to be accepted. He is still proving himself when he shouldn’t have to because Bennett did something most Georgia quarterbacks haven’t.

Bennett is a Georgia football legend and has what it takes to lead the Dawgs to greatness. When Smart said what he did about Bennett, that should be the final time he answered that kind of question.

The Mailman is the right man for the job, and the Dawgs don’t have to announce who their starter is because everyone already knows who it is.
