Georgia football receiver Ladd McConkey had his coming-out party in 2021 when he stepped up for the injured Jermaine Burton and the other sidelined wideouts.

He didn’t skip a beat, and this kid showed everyone why Georgia took a chance on him. Now fast forward a year later, and McConkey leads the team with motivational talk.

There is nothing like a smaller receiver — okay, 6-0 and 185-pounds soaking wet with his football pads on — who can juke and make defensive backs miss. We say that statement in the nicest way possible because he is a stud who shows that sometimes looks can be deceiving.

At G-Day, he only had one catch for three yards but got targeted five times. The defensive backs knew to be on him because of his playmaking abilities. Georgia’s defensive backs are some of the best in college football so that McConkey can grow.

He is someone that will need to step up and remind people of what he did at Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas last season. As one of the Dawgs’ top receivers, McConkey quickly became a fan favorite, and now it’s time for him to take on what Burton took once he got healthy last year.

Now that Burton is gone, McConkey is someone who can play that role, and in 2022 he will avoid a year-two slump and ball out for the Dawgs.
