Georgia football defensive lineman Tymon Mitchell is the latest Dawg to put his name into the transfer portal.

With spring practice wrapping up, this time of year is usually the second surge of transfer portal entries. The Dawgs have until fall camp to get to the 85 scholarship max, and there will likely be more transfers as the offseason continues.

Georgia could even go into the transfer portal to pull a couple of players out, but it’ll depend on who else leaves.

Mitchell is a rising junior that has gotten some playing time, but not a ton.

Georgia football sees Tymon Mitchell becomes the 12th player to enter the transfer portal.

He came to Georgia in the 2019 class and was a 3-star when he signed. The Nashville native saw action in the UAB, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Missouri and Charleston Southern games in 2021. Mitchell recorded six tackles last year in those five games.

Throughout his career in Athens, Mitchell recorded 11 tackles in eight appearances.

At 6-3 and 300-pounds, Mitchell isn’t tiny by any means but wasn’t able to push his way into the mix. He was on the Red Team for G-Day but didn’t get any snaps, so this decision to enter the transfer portal seemed evident.

Mitchell is the 12th Dawg to enter the transfer portal since Georgia won the national championship over Alabama on January 11. Most recently, Amarius Mims took his name out of the portal and decided to come back to Georgia, but this situation likely won’t result in that.

The Dawgs are still trying to get down to that 85 number, and according to the 247Sports scholarship tracker, they’re at 89 with the 2022 class, so Mitchell helps the Dawgs get a little closer to that max number.

Mitchell has the ability to make a team very happy, and it’s going to be interesting to see where he lands. He could head back to Tennessee, but only time will tell. The Dawgs will miss him, but there are a lot of talented players on the defensive line, and the best will play.
