Georgia basketball picked up a massive player out of the transfer portal from Alabama as Jusaun Holt announced his decision on Thursday.

The Dawgs have seen a bit of momentum for the men’s hoops team with two of their starters returning, but getting this guy is a huge win for head coach Mike White.

Holt is from Georgia but went to Alabama out of high school for one season.

Georgia basketball picked up a big-time transfer to compliment the team.

According to 247Sports basketball rankings, Holt was the No.112 overall, No. 23 shooting forward, and the No. 6 player out of Georgia in the 2021 class. He was a 4-star that helped St. Frances win state championships in 2019 and 2020. In his senior year of high school, he averaged 21.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals.

Holt played 22 games for the Tide this past season, where he averaged 0.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 6.9 minutes a game. So he didn’t get a ton of time on the court, which makes the transfer understandable.

The Dawgs need playmakers, and Holt has the potential to be one of those guys. White can work with him on his production, and he will likely get more than 6.9 minutes a game. Georgia needs scorers to complement Kario Oquendo and Braelen Bridges. Holt can be that guy for the Dawgs, and getting him on campus sooner than later will help even more.

Holt joins Justin Hill and Trey Roberts as the three players Georgia plucked out of the transfer portal. The Dawgs have six scholarships remaining to fill through the portal, but getting someone like Holt should perk interest.

The Dawgs need to hit the Peach State hard because it produces a ton of talent, which is something Georgia lacked in the past. White is finding guys who are willing to work and help the Dawgs build up their program.

Plus, it’s a Georgia guy who left the state out of high school. Maybe future players will see him come back to Athens and take a chance on White.

Alabama didn’t work for him, but maybe Georgia will pull out his potential and turn him into a star. It’s time to see him average the numbers he did in high school and imagining him and Oquendo together on the court is finally something to get excited about for Dawg fans.

White is on a roll right now finding players who fit his system and is far from done. The Dawgs need some size for the roster, but Holt is a great addition, and he should be able to help bring in more playmakers.
