Georgia football has officially three players off the board, tying its record for most players drafted in the first round as The Green Bay Packers selected Quay Walker as the 22nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
This pick comes as a surprise because most thought Nakobe Dean would be the first linebacker off the board, but the Packers decided to shock the football world by picking Walker.
He is another stud off the Dawgs’ 2021 defense that helped Georgia win their first national title in 41-years.
Walker has a lot of upside, and since the NFL Combine, he has been another player who kept creeping up the draft boards. Not many thought he would go this high, but it’s great to see a surprise pick happen.
Georgia football saw Quay Walker become the third Dawg selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Dawgs can name themselves LBU after seeing Walker go this high in the NFL Draft, and knowing he won’t be the only one makes that even sweeter.
Walker was another guy who stuck around for another year, and in 2021 he flourished. He put it all together and was a significant playmaker for the Dawgs.
During his career in Athens, Walker recorded 139 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, and three pass deflections. In 2021, he finished with 67 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss,1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and 24 quarterback pressures.
Not to mention, Walker led the Dawgs in the national championship game with eight tackles. As the season continued, Walker grew and got better.
At the NFL Combine, Walker ran a 4.52 40-yard dash which impressed a lot of scouts. He has excellent instincts and speed. Walker seems to be the total package and is aware of play development.
His discipline is another thing that stands out in him, which helped the Dawgs win so many games. Walker tended to be a background playmaker, but the Packers saw just how impressive he was and decided to take him as soon as possible.
No one thought he would be the first linebacker off the board, but he was and will join former teammate Eric Stokes in Green Bay. The Packers got a steal, and Walker will help them find a lot of success.
Georgia has seen three defenders taken and is right on track to break those records we’ve discussed countless times. There are 12 players still waiting to get selected, but it wouldn’t surprise us to see the first round close out with a few more Dawgs taken off the big board.
