Georgia football safety Lewis Cine became the fifth Dawg taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft as the Vikings used the final pick of the round to snag him off the board.
With Cine drafted, the Dawgs officially have a new record for most players taken in the first round. The 2018 draft class set it at three, but Wyatt broke it at four, and Cine set it again at five.
While Wyatt is a massive NFL Draft steal, Cine could secretly be one of the Vikings’ best picks of this entire draft.
Georgia football sees Lewis Cine drafted by the Vikings at 32nd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Cine is a gritty head-hunting safety that isn’t afraid of anything. He is an intelligent football player that is a leader in the secondary.
He went from an overly-aggressive safety to one of the best in college football because Cine was coachable, and head coach Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, and the other defensive backs coaches showed him how to be successful.
After experts said he was the second or third best available, Cine was the first safety off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Cine was the defensive MVP of the national championship game after recording seven tackles, one tackle for loss, and a pass breakup.
During his career at Georgia, Cine recorded 145 tackles, 96 of which were solo ones, 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and 16 pass deflections.
Cine was impressed with his blazing speed at the NFL Combine as he recorded a 4.37 40-yard dash. However, his interviews made him stand out above other players.
While the Vikings originally had the 12th pick, they traded down to the 32nd one and made an intelligent choice.
He will make an excellent addition to the Vikings’ secondary.
Georgia football saw a lot of success during the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and still has 10 players left on the board. While it was a surprise to see Nakobe Dean left out of the first round, he will make a tremendous second-round addition.
The Dawgs are still on track to build off this historic start to the 2022 NFL Draft. Tune into Dawn of the Dawg for first-round takeaways, reactions, and more Friday morning.
Buckle up, Dawg fans. The fun is just getting started for Georgia, and the next two days should match Thursday night’s energy.
