Georgia football offensive lineman, Jamaree Salyer

One of the captains of the offense, Jamaree Salyer helped anchor a very good Georgia offensive line last season. Salyer in particular was great, as he allowed just one sack in 11 games last year.

He also faced off against players like Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo, and Will Anderson Jr. His pancake block against the newest Detroit Lion in the Orange Bowl was a pretty iconic moment.

Salyer was a 5-star recruit from Atlanta when he came to Georgia and played high school football at Pace Academy. After playing sporadically as a freshman and sophomore, he became a full-time starter during his junior season.

Like many other juniors at the end of the season, Salyer chose to return to Athens for his senior season, a move that paid off tremendously for all involved.

As a captain, Salyer would often try to excite the team. He recalled to Jeff Sentell of Dawg Nation that during the National Championship game, he approached the offensive line and challenged them to “physically abuse” Alabama and beat them into submission. He knew that Georgia needed to make a play and get back in front.

Following that pep talk, James Cook broke off a 67-yard run. This pep talk and run helped set up Georgia’s first touchdown of the game.

Salyer is the right size for an NFL offensive lineman at 6’3 and 321 lbs. During his senior year, he allowed 0.7% pressure on the quarterback, the lowest percentage in the country. According to Pro Football Focus, he also has the second-highest career pass-blocking grade at Georgia since 2014.

Isaiah Wynn was the only one ahead of him who got drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Salyer also edges out former No. 4 overall pick and current New York Giant Andrew Thomas by that same statistic.

Expect Salyer to go as a late second or early third-round pick based on the mock drafts. The Cincinnati Bengals come to mind as a team that could take him.

Despite their Super Bowl appearance last year, the Bengals’ offensive line was often exposed in the playoffs. Could we see Salyer protecting former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow in Cincy? The Bengals love drafting the Dawgs, so it’s a strong possibility. They have drafted 11 Dawgs since 2000. Could Salyer be No.12?

Other Bulldogs, along with these players, will be hearing their names called today and tomorrow, such as Channing Tindall, Zamir White, James Cook, and perhaps even Jake Camarda. This group is all shaping up to be the greatest NFL Draft in the history of Georgia football.
