Georgia football offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer becomes the 13th Dawg drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft as the Los Angeles Chargers selected him with the 195th overall pick.

Salyer is one of the most versatile offensive linemen in this class, and it’s shocking to see him drop to the sixth round. The Chargers got a deal on him, but he will be someone that can immediately make an impact as a rookie.

He may not be as big as some teams would like an offensive lineman, but Salyer will prove all the doubters wrong. Salyer played offensive tackle and on the inside so that versatility only makes him better. He was also one of the four permanent captains in 2021, so the Chargers got a good one.

Georgia football sees Jamaree Salyer become a Charger during the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

If Salyer were taller, he would have gone off the board in the first round, but instead, the Chargers got a steal late in the draft.

Salyer allowed one sack since 2020, and while an injury limited his time in 2021, he plugged in wherever the Dawgs needed him. When Broderick Jones really adapted to the left tackle position, Georgia was able to slide him inside, and it immediately helped the Dawgs rushing attack.

He has excellent footwork, stays balanced, and bullies defenders. Salyer is the one who manhandled Aiden Hutchinson during the Orange Bowl and did a great job against Will Anderson in the national championship game. Not many people could get by him, which is why it’s such a shock to see him taken this late.

However, it doesn’t matter because the Chargers will get to see what he is worth and will quickly see this pick will pay for itself.

According to the reports, head coach Kirby Smart went to bat for Salyer as he called the Chargers and convinced them to draft him. It wasn’t about him getting to 13 draft picks, because those things don’t matter to Smart. He wanted the Chargers to get a solid offensive lineman, and Smart knows how good this young man is.

Salyer is everything an NFL team wants in an offensive guard. Despite most grading him to go on Day 2, sometimes those things are wrong. Regardless Salyer will battle for a starting role with the Chargers and will be someone who makes a lot of money in the NFL.

Georgia football now has 13 draft picks in the 2022 NFL Draft and has two players left on the board. As the sixth round rolls along, there is still a chance for the Dawgs to leave an even bigger mark on this year’s draft, but at this point, it’s just more icing on the cake.
