Eleven years since a Georgia football player got drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, and they selected Justin Shaffer in the sixth round with the 190th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Dawgs now have seen 12 of its 15 players selected, but this is a perfect fit for Shaffer. We’re just happy, the Falcons finally decided to give another Dawg a chance, so we will focus on that positive.

Atlanta got a solid guard in Shaffer, who has overcome a lot of adversity to get where he is today.

Georgia football sees Justin Shaffer drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

After suffering a neck injury, Shaffer fought hard to get back on the field and, in the last year, has been a significant force on the Dawgs’ offensive line.

Shaffer started all 15 games in 2021 for the Dawgs at left guard and played 100% of the offensive snaps against Clemson, Kentucky, Florida, Michigan and Alabama.

Georgia used him in 51 games, and he is the first Georgia player since Akeem Dent in 2011. It’s good to see the Falcons finally take a shot on a Dawg. Even though this doesn’t forgive them entirely,  the Falcons will at least have a Georgia player on its roster.

Shaffer could shock some people in the league and will be someone the Falcons can rely on to be a strong player on and off the field.

Georgia now has 12 guys drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and continues to break the school record. They are just two picks away from tying the NFL Draft record of most players taken in one draft as they look to join the 2019 LSU class who did it most recently.

With the sixth and seventh rounds in full force, will we see Derion Kendrick, Jamaree Salyer, and John Fitzpatrick find an NFL home?
