Georgia basketball had its own impressive weekend as new head coach Mike White and his staff added a few more talented additions to the roster. White is on a hot streak of adding strong players after losing so many.

The men’s basketball program added two more players out of the transfer portal and landed one commitment. Georgia added former Syracuse center Frank Anselem and former North Texas Guard Mardrez McBride out of the portal.

Kyeron Lindsay was the final addition of the weekend as 2022 4-star forward committed to the Dawgs during an official visit.

Georgia basketball continues to add strong talent to its roster.

The Dawgs added a much-needed big man in Anselem as he is 6-10. He entered the transfer portal back on March 31, and it didn’t take him long to find his new home. He chose the Dawgs over LSU and Georgetown.

Last year, he played in 32 games, averaging 2.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and he made 62.5% of his shots. Anselem had the fourth most rebounds on the team with 123 and recorded three double-digit rebound games.

He is another hometown player who started his high school career at Westlake High School in Atlanta before finishing it at Prolific Prep in Napa, California.  Anselem was originally from Lagos, Nigeria, but his family eventually moved to the states.

White needed a big guy like Anselem on this team, and he delivered one. The Dawgs have been missing one, so it’s exciting to see him commit to the G.

Anselem announced on Saturday his decision to transfer to Georgia, giving the Dawgs their fifth player out of the portal. However, there would be a sixth addition the same evening and another Peach State product.

The second portal commitment for the Dawgs on Saturday was McBride. He is a 6-2 and 180-pound guard from Augusta.

Last year at North Texas, he started all 31 games averaging 11.3 points, three boards and 1.2 assists. He is lethal from the arc as McBride made 79 3-points last year. McBride is a strong shooter and the Dawgs could use one of those to compliment Kario Oquendo.

The last pick-up of the weekend for White and his staff came on Sunday when Lindsay announced his pledge.

He was in Athens on his second official visit and that is when he made his decision. According to 247Sports basketball recruiting rankings, Lindsay is the No. 103 overall player. At 6-8 and 205-pounds, he has some good size to him and will be able to help Georgia.

Lindsay is White’s first high school commitment since taking the Georgia job, and this could be the commitment the Dawgs needed to show how things are changing in Athens.

White has hit the ground running after seeing so many players transfer out of the program. He has a few more scholarships left to fill for the 2022 class, so expect more announcements in the next week or so.

Georgia fans should be really excited about these three additions. The Dawgs went from being one of the teams expected to struggle in 2022 into someone that could really cause problems.
