Georgia golf didn’t have the SEC Championship finish they wanted, but the No.13 ranked Dawgs did get a strong NCAA Bryan Regional assignment.

The top five finishers at each of the regional tournaments are the ones who advance to the NCAA Championships at the end of this month. Georgia is the No.3 seed in this region at Traditions Club, the Texas A&M home course.

The Dawgs have a solid shot at advancing, but they play a tough group of golf programs.

Georgia golf will take on some stiff competition at NCAA Regionals.

Each Regional has 13 teams and 10 individuals from programs that didn’t make the cut, and the team goal at this event is to finish in the top five who will travel to Arizona for the NCAAs. If the low individual isn’t on one of those top five teams, they will advance too.

The No.1 seed is Pepperdine, an absolute juggernaut of a golf program. Texas A&M is the No.2 seed, No.3 Georgia, No.4 Tennessee, No.5 Kansas, No. 6 Arizona, No. 7 Michigan State, No. 8 SMU, No. 9 Boise State, No. 10 Oregon State, No. 11 Colorado State, No. 12 Southeast Louisiana and No. 13 Texas Southern.

Five other regionals are battling it out for their spot in Scottsdale.

This year marks Georgia’s 26th straight regional appearance and 25th under head coach Chris Haack. The appearance marks the 32nd time in 33 seasons that the Dawgs made the postseason — pure dominance.

The only time they didn’t was in 1995 and 2020, but there wasn’t a post-season due to the global pandemic shutting down sports.

Georgia makes the NCAAs 71% of the time as the Dawgs’ have advanced 23 times. Under Haack, they’ve advanced 20 times. He is such a dominant coach, and the Dawgs are so lucky to have him in Athens.

The Dawgs are looking for their third national championship and the first since 2005. However, they’ve had a lot of success even when they don’t win, finishing runner up in 2007 and 2011.

Would it be nice to win the regional? Yes, but the Dawgs need to aim for the top five and build off that momentum. Georgia has a strong shot, but they have to take on a challenging field, so there cannot be any slacking.

Senior Trent Phillips needs to be the leader and motivate the rest of the starting lineup. Joining Phillips will likely be Nicolas Cassidy, Ben van Wyk, Buck Brumlow and Maxwell Ford.

That lineup is a winning one, as they claimed the Linger Longer Invitational back in March. Regionals are May 16-18, where the teams will face off in a 54-hole stroke play tournament.
