Georgia softball will head to Durham, North Carolina, for the NCAA Regionals, where the Dawgs will look to make it to Super Regionals and possibly the World Series again.

The Dawgs are the No.2 seed and the No.1 seed Duke is the regional host as they rank No.12 nationally. Duke will be no pushover, but Georgia will play Liberty first while the Blue Devils will take on UMBC on Friday.

Georgia softball has a solid road to the Super Regional round if they play smart.

The Dawgs have 20 straight NCAA Tournament appearances and look for World Series appearance No. 6. Georgia has a 74-41 record in the NCAA Tournament and is a staple softball program that expects to make it past regionals.

They also have advanced to 11 Super Regionals in the program’s history. This regional is paired with the Los Angles Regional, hosted by No.5 overall UCLA — so whoever wins each regional will face off in the Super Regional round.

The teams in the LA regional are UCLA, Ole Miss, Grand Canyon, and Loyola Marymount University, so the Dawgs could see the Rebels again if they dethrone UCLA.

Regionals are a four-team double-elimination tournament with the top 16 teams advancing. Then those 16 squads will face off in Super Regionals May 27-29, and they’re a best-of-three series for a spot in the World Series.

Oklahoma City is the goal, and Georgia has the confidence to get there but will need a total team effort.

That terrible inning against Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament is something they cannot have in the postseason because it will get them eliminated.

In the first year of the Tony Baldwin head coaching era, the Dawgs made it to the postseason with a 40-16 record, boasting 100-plus home runs and a massive chip on their shoulders.

After the letdown in the SEC Tournament, this regional is an important one for Baldwin and his girls. They are better than that and have a pitching squad to handle the pressures. Duke will be challenging, but Georgia should be able to get past Liberty.

The Blue Devils are 41-8 on the season and are having a solid season, but these strong programs can go down and get beaten on any given day.

Next. Georgia football is easily RBU and Alabama cannot steal that title. dark

Georgia and Liberty play at noon on Friday, and the game will get televised on ESPNU. Duke and UMBC will play after them. We will continue to update as the tournament continues. The Dawgs need a solid regional and could have it as long as they play their game.
