Georgia golf jumps up the NCAA Regional leaderboard on Day 2
Georgia golf saw another incredible round on Tuesday as the Dawgs are in second place with one round to go at the NCAA Bryan Regional event.
The Dawgs shot a 3-under 285 to move to 12-under 564 through 36 holes. Arizona holds a three-stroke lead as they sit at 13-under 563. Texas A&M is 10-under and sits in third place.
Pepperdine sits in fourth place at 8-under 568, and Oregon State rounds out the top 5 at 1-under 575.
Georgia golf sees another strong day at the NCAA Regional.
There is one round left before the top five schools advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Dawgs sit in a great spot in second place, but they need one more day to secure that spot, and it feels like they will.
Senior leader Trent Phillips had another strong round, but it was freshman Buck Brumlow that paced the Dawgs on Tuesday. Brumlow shot a 4-under 68, which included five birdies. Phillips carded a 2-under 70, which put him atop the individual leaderboard with Arizona’s Christian Banke and Texas A&M’s William Paysse. They lead the four golfers under them by one stroke.
Brumlow saw a first round two-stroke penalty overturned so he sits at 4-under 140 through two rounds and is now eighth in the individual race.
Maxwell Ford signed a 1-over 73, and Nicolas Cassidy was the final counted score of the day with a 2-over 74. Ben van Wyk also competed, but his 3-over 75 didn’t get counted.
Ford sits in 12th place at 2-under 142, which gives the Dawgs three guys in the top 15 on the individual board.
Consistency is key during this regional play, and right now, the Dawgs are doing a great job of playing within themselves. They are talented enough to be one of the top 5 schools in this regional to advance, and if they put together one more round, that will happen.
Georgia will tee off with Arizona and Texas A&M in the final round on Wednesday. Tee times go off between 8:30 and 9:14 a.m.
