Georgia football felt confident about Arch Manning, but instead, he committed to Texas.
This miss on the recruiting trail will be the only time Texas beats Georgia football in the near future. Georgia got the first bad recruiting news as the No.1 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, Arch Manning, picked the Texas Longhorns instead of the Dawgs.
This decision comes as a slight surprise, but it’s one that does not bother people for a while.
Georgia and Texas held the edge for most of his recruitment, and it seems it came down to Steve Sarkisian being the kind of quarterback coach Manning wanted.
Is it a swing and a miss for the Dawgs? Sure, some can see it like that, but at the end of the day, these kids make the decision they feel is best for them.
Georgia football won’t see Arch Manning in the Red and Black.
Even though our post from Wednesday suggested the Dawgs should remain confident in landing Manning, sometimes we’re wrong about these things.
Manning was a big target for the Dawgs; sometimes, Georgia doesn’t get them. That doesn’t mean I’m less salty about it because I would love to see him in the Red and Black, but we shouldn’t dwell on it.
Texas did what they had to so Manning would come, and the game should respect the game.
Even though the Dawgs are red hot on the recruiting trail and now that Manning has made a decision, it could affect landing a few other positional players, Georgia will still finish with one of the best 2023 recruiting classes.
Head coach Kirby Smart has a game that he plays when one big player doesn’t come to Georgia, and he usually finds a way to bring better or take away the limelight for the player who made the wrong choice.
Georgia football will see a few more commitments hit in the coming weeks as the Dawgs are still building off the momentum from the last three weekends of hosting top talent. Best of luck to Manning in Austin and playing for the Texas Longhorns.
