Georgia football tight end Brock Bowers vaulted himself into the national spotlight during his standout freshman season.

The fan favorite has been the subject of hefty player comparisons and will have incredibly high expectations entering the 2022 season. While he has already set a new standard for the tight end position at Georgia, fans are excited to watch him raise it even higher in the two seasons he has left.

Bowers set Georgia’s single-season tight end receiving yards record with 882 yards as a true freshman. That total also placed him in seventh place for Georgia’s single-season receiving yards as a whole.

After displaying that production level in year one, the sky is the limit for what Bowers could do in 2022, especially considering how loaded the Dawgs’ tight end room is.

Georgia football tight end Brock Bowers is set to have a monstrous sophomore season.

With multiple elite-level athletes at the position, Georgia’s offense will be a nightmare for opposing defenses. The versatility of the playmakers surrounding Bowers will prevent teams from focusing solely on him, which could free him up even more than he was accustomed to in 2021.

Georgia’s receiving records could very well be in danger with an improved Bowers on the loose. He has already made quite the name for himself, so let’s look at exactly what he brings to the table.

Strengths

Where to begin? Bowers is one of the most dynamic playmakers in college football regardless of position, so most of his game would be considered a strength.

One skill does stand out above the rest, though. Bowers’ downhill speed and ability to bounce off of tackles make him a true YAC monster. His versatility with the ball after the catch is unmatched for a tight end at the collegiate level.

Rival fans have labeled him as a “screen merchant” because of how often he gets utilized in pass plays right at the line of scrimmage, but he has proven that he can excel in the downfield passing game as well.

His usage close to the line of scrimmage has nothing to do with an inability to contribute downfield. Designing plays to get him in space plays to his biggest strength, allowing him to rumble through, around and right past defenders.

The short yardage throws are also made possible because of Bowers’ uncanny ability to find the soft spot in the defense. He was always able to find a spot to make himself a big, easy target for quarterback Stetson Bennett. This ability played a major role in Bowers becoming Bennett’s go-to security blanket as the season progressed.

Weaknesses

Pinpointing a weakness with an athlete as talented as Bowers isn’t easy, but one area of his game that could use improvement would be his run blocking. He isn’t a complete liability as a blocker but occasionally misses assignments that result in negative plays.

Considering that he was just a freshman, this is an area that can and will develop as he grows as a player in 2022 and beyond.

2022 Season Prediction for Brock Bowers

Bowers’ impressive 2021 season has fans anxious to see what he can do in the upcoming season. In 14 games, he racked up 56 receptions for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns.

While better numbers are likely expected in 2022, the emergence of other playmakers like Arik Gilbert and Adonai Mitchell could eat into his target share a bit. With that said, the Georgia coaching staff will still ensure the ball consistently finds its way to Bowers.

A reasonable prediction for Bowers in 2022 is 50 receptions for 900 yards and 10 touchdowns. These numbers are relatively similar to his production from last season, but with Georgia’s talent on offense, the Dawgs could share the ball a bit more in 2022.
