Donuts with the Dawgs: Betting on Georgia football and Stetson Bennett
Good morning Georgia football fans, and welcome back to another edition of Donuts with the Dawgs, where we discuss our favorite topic surrounding the reigning national champions.
Another week of fall camp is on the docket for the Dawgs, and after that first scrimmage, there is plenty of work to do. Georgia has a lot of talent, but head coach Kirby Smart was clear that it wasn’t up to his standard.
This week will likely feature a little more intensity — if that’s possible. A handful of guys on this team know how hard they need to work, and Smart’s comments shouldn’t discourage anyone — it’s just part of the process.
Smart knows what it takes to go all the way, so he knows that kind of commitment begins in August. He could have said what he did after the scrimmage to fire up his team, but only they truly know where they are.
Here are today’s Georgia football headlines for Donuts of the Dawgs.
Today’s headlines feature topics from that first scrimmage, starting quarterback Stetson Bennett and why people should bet on the Dawgs in 2022. There are three solid headlines from outside publications that we loved from this past weekend, and one of them includes a story about former Dawgs because they matter too.
There are also headlines from Dawn of the Dawg at the bottom of this article we encourage folks to read. They are some of our favorite ones from this past weekend.
So grab your cup of joe and a donut — today’s headlines are sure to be enjoyable.
The case for betting on the Georgia Bulldogs in 2022 by Doug Kezirian of ESPN
ESPN’s Doug Kezirian discussed why the Dawgs are one of the teams to bet on in 2022. He predicted Georgia would win over 11 wins, and we love that prediction. A few guys think Georgia could lose to Tennessee or South Carolina, but it’s hard to fathom that as dominant as the Dawgs have been.
Kentucky is the team to worry about if there is one, but the Dawgs will likely be double-digit favorites in most games. It’ll depend on how the season goes, but if Georgia goes game by game and doesn’t look ahead, it will be similar to last season.
Kezirian also discussed the worst-case scenario and a betting spin in the article, but I won’t spoil that. I like his assessment of the Dawgs and the 11-plus win prediction.
Georgia football: Opposing SEC coaches talk anonymously about Stetson Bennett by Jordan Hill of 247Sports
Jordan Hill is hands down one of the best writers at 247Sports across all college football staff — yes, in the entire country. His article discussing what opposing coaches had to say about Bennett really was something I enjoyed reading. Seeing what some of these SEC coaches had to say about Bennett to ESPN was great.
Disrespected was one that really stood out, and we agree. Bennett does get disrespected, and it’s silly that it happens. Coaches were realistic about Bennett, and we are too, but he should get more credit than he does.
This article gives insight into what these coaches think of Bennett and Georgia.
George Pickens lifting off toward NFL stardom after dynamic moments at Georgia by Mike Griffith of Dawg Nation
Last on today’s docket is Mike Griffith and his article on George Pickens. We discussed last week that Pickens is a Dawg and already proving himself in the NFL, but his performance in the Steelers’ first preseason game confirmed it to the world.
Griffith discusses what Pickens did during the preseason win over Seattle on Saturday and also predicts what the rookie will accomplish this season.
Pickens is stealing all the limelight this offseason and seeing him correlate that into a game, even if a preseason one, is an excellent indication of what the future holds.
Now let’s get to the Dawn of the Dawgs headlines you should read this morning.

Georgia football is now in the teenage numerical days until the Dawgs kick off against Oregon in Atlanta. The Dawgs are growing as a team by the day, and this week should give even more insight into what’s to come in 2022.
There are just 19 days left, but the headlines are staying juicy. Stay tuned to Dawn of the Dawgs’ coverage and check out the other ones to get the full low down of Georgia football.
