The preseason AP Poll dropped on Monday, and Georgia football is safely sitting in the No. 3 spot. Despite being reigning national champions, the Dawgs come in behind No.1 Alabama and No.2 Ohio State.

Most experts believe 2022 will not be an excellent season for the Dawgs, but Georgi beat Alabama to win the title, and Ohio State didn’t even get into the playoffs last season.

However, the No.3 ranking is just fine for the Dawgs because it gives them a chip on their shoulder to prove they’re not going anywhere.

Alabama is proven, so it’s understandable why they are No.1, but Ohio State at No.2 is a choice. The Buckeyes have a great offense for 2022, but so does Georgia. It’s interesting to see how these things get ranked, but it’s also the preseason polls.

Georgia football finds itself safely ranked at No.3 on the preseason AP Poll.

The Dawgs can be out of the spotlight at No. 3 and let the Tide and Buckeyes have that limelight. Georgia can sit back and silently dominate until the world realizes that the Dawgs aren’t one-hit-wonders.

There are six SEC teams, and that leads the conferences. The ACC has five, BIG10 has four, BIG 12 has 3, Pac-12 has 3, American Conference has two, and there are two independent schools on the AP Top 25.

Preseason AP Poll:

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Georgia
  4. Clemson
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Texas A&M
  7. Utah
  8. Michigan
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Baylor
  11. Oregon
  12. Oklahoma State
  13. North Carolina State
  14. USC
  15. Michigan State
  16.  Miami (FL)
  17. Pittsburgh
  18. Wisconsin
  19. Arkansas
  20. Kentucky
  21. Ole Miss
  22. Wake Forest
  23. Cincinnati
  24. Houston
  25. BYU

Losing as many playmakers as the Dawgs did will cause the analysts to question things, but at the same time, it motivates them to work harder. Who cares if Alabama is No.1 again for the seventh time in Nick Saban’s 15 seasons or that Ohio State is in the top 3 — it’s how you finish.

Everyone starts 0-0, but not everyone finishes the season with a zero in the loss column. Georgia needs to take it week by week and focus on the opponent at hand.

No looking ahead or expecting to make it to Atlanta because they made it there in 2021. This season is a brand new one, and it’s a clean slate, so that is why the No.3 ranking is safe.

Georgia football doesn’t need to be ranked No.1 to stay relevant. The Dawgs will put their heads down and keep grinding to achieve whatever season goals they have set.
