Georgia football made its second appearance in the College Football Playoffs and defeated Alabama to win the first national championship in 41 years. According to ESPN, the 2022 season could see the Dawgs make another playoff appearance.

The Dawgs could very well go 12-0 this season, despite what some experts think. Georgia has so much talent from top to bottom that it’s hard to suggest the Dawgs drop off too much.

ESPN discussed earlier in the week that 20 teams could possibly make it into that final four. Of course, we all know Georgia currently sits No. 3 behind Ohio State and Alabama in the AP Poll, so suggesting the Dawgs get to the playoff isn’t too risky.

However, it’s tough to repeat a national championship, and just making it to the playoffs would be an excellent season for Georgia. That playoff appearance is one of the goals for the Dawgs, as it should be. They’ve already proven they are contenders, so anything less than the conference championship and possible playoff berth is a letdown.

Georgia football should see another playoff appearance in 2022.

ESPN calculated that Georgia has a 75.2% chance of making the playoff and just a 24.3% chance of repeating as national champions. Que the, so you’re saying there is a chance meme to fire up the Georgia crowds. Yes, there is a chance, but Georgia will have to remain focused, avoid complacency and have some young guys step up in significant roles.

Not to mention the Dawgs will need starting quarterback Stetson Bennett to have another phenomenal year, and they need the offense to be explosive. It sounds like a lot to ask, but if anyone can make that happen, it’s head coach Kirby Smart and his squad.

Obviously, the toughest test would be Alabama in the SEC Championship Game because no one on the Dawgs’ schedule comes close to the juggernaut that is the Tide. ESPN put down Kentucky as the toughest regular season opponent for Georgia, but the Dawgs still have an 83.3% chance to come out victorious against the Wildcats.

Georgia must utilize its strengths, like its tight ends and veteran quarterback. One of the biggest things the Dawgs need to avoid if they want to keep that path to the playoff clear is a loss this week against Oregon. Without a win against the Ducks, the Dawgs’ non-conference schedule is pretty bleak, so Week 1 could mean everything.

The Dawgs still have a clear path to the playoffs, regardless of Saturday’s outcome, but their chances increase if they defeat the Ducks. Georgia could have the opportunity to do something special, so buckle up and enjoy another wild ride.
