Georgia football gets tremendous OT pledge for 2023 class
Georgia football continues to build momentum in its 2023 recruiting class as the Dawgs add 4-star offensive tackle Monroe Freeling to the group. The Mount Pleasant, S.C. resident picked the Dawgs over Clemson, Florida, Miami and Alabama.
This addition is another notch on the belt for head coach Kirby Smart and his offensive line staff in terms of adding elite tackles that could become the next NFL franchise left tackle.
He could join the likes of Isaiah Wynn, Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wilson and most recently, Broderick Jones in the long line of left tackles that come out of Georgia.
Freeling is the pickup Georgia needed ahead of the season, as the last few targets seem to be selecting other programs. However, it’s early, and the Dawgs are playing the long game for this 2023 recruiting cycle.
Georgia football added 4-star offensive tackle Monroe Freeling to its 2023 class.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 80 overall player, the No. 13 offensive tackle and the No. 1 player out of South Carolina.
At 6-7 and 283-pounds, Freeling has a frame that can add weight to it, which is a big upside. He is talented enough to hold that kind of weight at his size, so that will be one of the first things that happen when he gets to Athens,
However, it’s his technical abilities that make him such a highly sought-after target. Freeling has a lot of flexibility throughout his large frame, and that is something tackles need. The power he has to work his hips and get into a defensive end is what college coaches want out of their offensive tackles.
He has quick hands and is very consistent with his placement. Freeling also has excellent footwork. Once Freeling engages, he can drive well with his legs. He flat-out can dominate defenders.
The biggest thing with Freeling is his weight. Once he adds 20-30-pounds, he will be an absolute monster on the football field.
Freeling is a tremendous pickup for the Dawgs, showing that Georgia is not faltering on the recruiting trail. Offensive line coach Stacy Searels got a big one in Freeling, which should silence his doubters.
Georgia football now has 19 members in its 2023 class, and after adding Freeling, the Dawgs should jump from the No. 6 class to the No. 3 class. Smart and his staff know what they’re doing, and watching them play this recruiting game is fun.
