Georgia football saw its offense explode last Saturday against the Oregon Ducks, and now this offense will look to continue that trend in the home opener.

The Dawgs put up 49 points on the Ducks last week and look for a similar performance against the Bulldogs. There is no reason that Georgia cannot just lay on the points this week. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken will not only be able to use his first-string offense but also utilize and get some of these younger players some game experience.

When Georgia plays teams like Samford, it isn’t a knock to the program if the Dawgs do their job and handle their business. These games can be very beneficial because it allows so many players to get on the field.

This week the Dawgs cannot let off any intensity, but they should up the stakes and score as many points as possible.

Look for Georgia football to accomplish these three things on offense against the Samford Bulldogs.

Georgia should utilize a balanced attack against Samford because the run and pass game will succeed. The Dawgs are a far superior team, and this offense will be ready to enforce its will upon Samford’s defense.

Much like we did with the defense, we’ve included what to watch for instead of keys to win because this Samford game should be a relatively easy victory for the Dawgs.

Here are the three things to watch for on Saturday:

Scoring a lot of points

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart has a lot of respect for these lower-tier opponents, but that doesn’t mean he won’t lay the hammer down to beat them. The Dawgs need to score at least 49 points to provide a solid enough victory that won’t get used against them when the playoffs committee makes selections.

However, if Georgia goes undefeated, it’ll be hard to deny the Dawgs, but it’s still safe practice to lay the points on teams like Samford because it shows dominance.

Georgia could lay on 50-plus points, and that would be nice because high-powered offenses are what everyone focuses on in today’s college football world, so the Dawgs need to exert that talent and lay on the points thick.

Spreading the wealth

The Dawgs will utilize a lot of bodies this weekend, which means more people get to add numbers to their season statistics. Georgia could see 10-plus receivers record at least one catch and all five running backs get significant snaps.

Monken already loves to give reps to six-plus receivers a game so this matchup will be no different. This game is a great time to see who has what it takes to be a weapon Georgia can use down the stretch or if injuries happen.

Guys like Dominick Blaylock, Kearis Jackson, Dillon Bell, Jackson Meeks and Cole Speer — all these young and older guys can take advantage of this week and go show out. Even the ones we didn’t list here need to take the bulls by the horns and show out because this week could be what shoots them up the rotation. Just look at what UAB did last year for the likes of Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey.

Granted, Bowers was exceptional even before UAB, but those two big catches showed just how special he was.

Rotating quarterbacks

Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett will start this game against Samford, but how much playing time he will get is still up in the air. He will likely get the Dawgs up by 21 points, maybe even 14, before his backups take over the offense.

This game is a prime opportunity to let Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff get much-needed game-time snaps, so play them, rotate them and get them comfortable making quick decisions.

Georgia will need them to use this game to their advantage because one of them will start for the Dawgs next season, so the more time on the field they can get without causing friction with Bennett, the better.

Beck and Vandagriff could go head-to-head this week and see who truly gets that backup role moving forward. Last week, Beck came in and didn’t skip a beat in terms of offensive production, but I’d like to see if Vandagriff could elevate his game.

Georgia should not take Samford lightly, but the Dawgs will have an easy win if they can handle their business. Cover the spread, keep the Bulldogs out of the endzone and get out of there 2-0 on the season. Next week will be a true road test for the Dawgs, so this week they need to sharpen their skills and lay down the hammer.
