Georgia football has already seen a few players taking that next step on this young defense, and one that has made the most significant leap has to be Smael Mondon.

He has been a light on this defense in the first two weeks of the season as he led the Dawgs in Week 2 in tackles. Mondon has grown so much in these two games, which should excite fans. Georgia needs to see someone step up and emerge as a leader in the linebacker corp.

In short, Mondon is a star in the making, and it won’t take him long to have a monumental game that puts him on everyone’s radar.

He is one of the next great linebackers to come out of Georgia, and this year it will be the one Mondon shows everyone just how good he is.

Smael Mondon is the next great Georgia football linebacker.

Georgia football has become a linebacker feeder school for the NFL, and Mondon came to Athens hoping to be one of the next to make it professionally. After seeing his performances in the last two weeks, those things are in motion.

Mondon has seven tackles in two weeks, with 1.5 tackles for loss and one quarterback hurry. Against Samford, he finished with four total tackles, three of them being solo ones, and that is where his tackles from behind the line of scrimmage happened. He is on the verge of having a breakout game, and it could come next week against South Carolina.

He improved from Week 1 to Week 2, so next week should hopefully Week 3 will be something to discuss.

To pronounce Mondon’s first name is Smile. Yes, it is the coolest first name on the roster, but the ferocious talent he brings to the table makes his name even better.

He joins Earnest Greene as someone we think will have huge seasons in 2022, with more to come this season. After two games, it’s hard to really predict what kind of team this could be, but right now, it feels special.
