Georgia football fans have it good right now, and not all of them realize that. It was apparent who was new to the Bulldog Nation during and after the Kent State game and who had been around a while. Georgia played sloppy, and it was probably one of the “worst” games the Dawgs have played in a couple of seasons, but some fans acted as if it were the end of the world.

Some fans complained about Kent State hanging around with Georgia. Those same folks chirped about how the No.1 team in the country should never play that bad, and more nonsense that I won’t even go into because it isn’t worth it. To be honest, the game wasn’t that bad, but it was a wake-up call that Georgia needed.

Did it look ugly? You bet it did, but looking at the stats, those three turnovers and the fake punt were massive momentum swingers for the Golden Flashes. Also, give some credit to Kent State for coming prepared to give the Dawgs a run for their money. We hate playing the rhetorical game, but it wouldn’t have been a very close game if Georgia didn’t shoot itself in the foot with those mistakes.

Georgia football fans need to remember just how good they have it with this program’s current situation.

The Georgia fans that complained and didn’t understand the game looked very entitled on social media. That statement isn’t a dig at that portion of the fanbase but an observation. Georgia will not win every game by 30-plus points — that isn’t how college football works.

Some of this fanbase need to realize that while Georgia is the defending national champions, it won’t be like that every season. I even saw some “Fire Kirby Smart” tweets and shook my head.

Georgia fans have it made. This program has one of the best head coaches in college football, and he continues to produce successful teams. Meanwhile, there are programs like Florida, Vandy, Nebraska, South Carolina, Auburn, Texas and many other programs that cannot seem to figure it out. They fall short in games, but the way Georgia handles itself is among the most elite.

It won’t always be pretty for the Dawgs because it’s extremely difficult to do what Alabama has done in the last 15 years. Georgia needs to be Georgia and no one else. This article isn’t for those who get what Smart is doing in Athens. This piece is for the new fans to remind them that this is the golden age of Georgia football. It has been far worse than what we saw on the field this past Saturday.

Georgia is one of the country’s best programs, and one game like Kent State does not define the Dawgs. Take a deep breath and appreciate Smart. Remember that what Smart and his staff are doing at Georgia is rare, and we all need to enjoy this ride because it could end at any time.

This team is special and will contend, or they may not. Regardless we all support the Dawgs and love them no matter what. Don’t diss this team, especially when you’re freaking out for no reason.

Bad games happen, and they do not affect the outcome of the rest of the season. Remember that, Georgia fans. This group is fine, and the team has earned our support, no matter the outcome. We’ve all gotten pretty spoiled with Smart so that Kent State game was good for us.
