Georgia football takes on Missouri, but there are two SEC matchups that could really be beneficial for the Dawgs in the long run. As we’re getting deeper into the season, there will be games that benefit the Dawgs even if they aren’t playing in them.

This week features two SEC games that will, but some weeks will feature other Power 5 teams. Georgia should handle its business against the Tigers, which will give them a 2-0 conference start, but if others around them can fall, it helps make those odds even better to get to Atlanta.

If Georgia can have an easier path to Atlanta, it is worth seeing teams upset each other. Strength of schedule is a factor, so seeing some teams win and play Georgia is beneficial, but at the same time, if you win, then you’re into the playoffs.

Let’s look at these two matchups and how they help Georgia.

Georgia football needs to see Ole Miss beat Kentucky

This week Kentucky travels to Oxford, MS, to take on Ole Miss, and this game is one of the most intriguing ones of the week. The Wildcats and Rebels are both 4-0, and this is the first time in 11 years Kentucky will make the trip to Mississippi.

If Ole Miss could beat Kentucky, it would help Georgia out because it shows that the Wildcats aren’t as good as some of the experts think they are. With a loss in the SEC, Kentucky would help the Dawgs because if something crazy happens later in the season, it’ll cancel it out. Not to mention knocking Kentucky down a few notches will be good in general.

Georgia has heard all offseason and even into the first part of the year how Kentucky could be the team that beats them, but only time will tell.

The Vegas oddsmakers have Ole Miss as a touchdown favorite, but who knows how the line will move as the game approaches. Kentucky is still missing some players too, and if Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has his program ready for a game, it’s this one because why not take out the second-best SEC East team?

Georgia football would love to see Arkansas pull off a miracle against Alabama

This matchup is a long shot, but if Arkansas could find a way to beat Alabama, it would be fantastic for Georgia. Even though the Texas A&M loss last year wasn’t that detrimental for Alabama, if the Hogs beat them, maybe that would be enough to keep the Tide out of Atlanta.

Arkansas will host the Tide, which means the Hogs have a chance. Granted coming off an emotional loss to Texas A&M last week, the Hogs may not play that great, but who knows? This football season has been on its head, so anything is possible at this point. Alabama is still a dominant force, so it is still doubtful, but it would be great to see the Tide fall in the regular season.

Georgia could have an even better shot at an SEC Championship and playoff spot if Alabama isn’t in the mix of things, and while it’ll take a lot more than just Arkansas beating them to make that happen, it would still help.
