Georgia football remains the No.1 overall team in the country despite having the week off, and the Dawgs should have. There is no one outside Tennessee that is playing as well as the Dawgs, so until Georgia maybe gets beat, they should stay on top of the polls.

The Dawgs received 31 votes for the No.1 spot, while Ohio State received 18 and Tennessee earned 13. After Week 8, the Top 6 remained the same, but after that, there was some movement.

Week 8 didn’t feature nearly as much carnage as Week 7 did, but it was a good one for the Dawgs to be off because we could focus on a few games that turned out to be beneficial.

The Dawg fans also got to watch some of the other College Football Playoff contenders. While we’re all focused on ourselves, there is no harm in watching a little competition when its the bye week.

Georgia football holds strong at No.1 on the AP Top 25 poll

Clemson got tested by Syracuse and only won by six points. TCU beat Kansas State by 10 points. Oregon took down No. 9 UCLA 45-30. USC was off like the Dawgs and Oklahoma State comeback and defeated Texas 41-34.

South Carolina beat Texas A&M for the first time ever, 30-24. Penn State got back on track by taking down Minnesota 45-17. Ole Miss was the latest SEC West team to fall as LSU beat them 45-20. However, the Rebels still rank above the Bayou Bengals.

A good chunk of the Top 25 was off for Week 8, but the games that were played were still a lot of fun to witness. Now that there have been eight weeks of games, let’s look at the entire Top 25.

The Week 9 AP Top 25 Poll

  1. Georgia (7-0)
  2. Ohio State (7-0)
  3. Tennessee (7-0)
  4. Michigan (7-0)
  5. Clemson (8-0)
  6. Alabama (7-1)
  7. TCU (7-0)
  8. Oregon (6-1)
  9. Oklahoma State (6-1)
  10. USC (6-1)
  11. Wake Forest (6-1)
  12. UCLA (6-1)
  13. Penn State (6-1)
  14. Utah (5-2)
  15. Ole Miss (7-1)
  16. Syracuse (6-1)
  17. Illinois (6-1)
  18. LSU (6-2)
  19. Kentucky (5-2)
  20. Cincinnati (6-1)
  21. North Carolina (6-1)
  22. Kansas State (5-2)
  23. Tulane (7-1)
  24. North Carolina State (5-2)
  25. South Carolina (5-2)

This Top 25 is one of the best in recent years. Each week another team could fall, and that is what makes this college football season so much fun to watch. You truly never know what could happen, and isn’t that what we love so much about this sport?

From top to bottom these teams have fought hard for these rankings. Some teams are still ranked higher than they should be, but for the most part, the AP Poll got it right. There is still a lot of football left to play before the College Football Playoff rankings emerge, and until we finally see who the Top 4 will be that look to win a national championship.

Right now the Dawgs just have to keep focusing on the opponent ahead of them, and they should stay right where they sit on the AP Poll. However, it must take a lot of focus from the Dawgs to stay perfect on the season.

This week Georgia will take a trip to Jacksonville to take on a scrappy Florida team that is looking to upset the Dawgs. However, I don’t expect that to happen because Georgia tastes blood and it’s time for them to hunt down teams for the rest of the season.
