Georgia HC Kirby Smart honors coach Vince Dooley the right way
Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart is a hardnose football coach, but what he did to honor the late Vince Dooley shows you what kind of person he truly is. Smart showed up for his post-game press conference in a button-down shirt, a Georgia tie and a black sweater — the same outfit Dooley was known for during his coaching tenure.
Dooley’s celebration of life was on Friday, and that was touching for the university to honor the winningest coach in its football history, but for Smart to do this was heartfelt. Georgia plays on Dooley field at Sanford Stadium, so the late coach’s legacy is everywhere, but it shows what impact he had on Smart for him to do that.
It was the final regular season game for the Dawgs, so it was a perfect way to honor the Georgia legend. Smart has a lot of passion and knew what Dooley meant to this university. It’s a good look for him — that classic southern gentleman attire.

The tie in the photo is coach Dooley’s, which makes the tribute that much better. This tribute should have any Dawg fan misty-eyed and proud of their head coach. Smart is a class act, and this just shows the love for Georgia goes deeper than what happens on the field. Hearing that it was Dooley’s actual tie gave me chills and made me appreciate Smart even more.
What a way to close out his second straight 12-0 regular season than to honor Dooley in the press conference. Smart continues to show why he is one of the best coaches and that he isn’t as hard as his outer shell shows. He is making Georgia history just like Dooley did, which makes this moment one of the best ones so far of the season.
