As the Georgia Bulldogs try to make it back-to-back National Championships, the good news just keeps on rolling in. True freshman safety Malaki Starks has just been named one of five finalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
The Maxwell Football Club confirmed the news as it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone as Starks had already made quite the name for himself in 2022. So far this college football season, Starks has totaled 59 tackles which is tied for the team lead, two interceptions, and seven passes defended. Needless to say, he’s been a force to reckon with on the defensive backfield of the Bulldogs as he’s only going to get better over time.
This is a great sight to see for Starks and the Bulldogs as he’s in an elite set of finalists and hopefully, he earns this amazing award. He’ll be going up against linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. of LSU, running back Quinshon Judkins of Ole Miss, quarterback Drake May of North Carolina, and linebacker Abdul Carter of Penn State.
Malaki Starks is a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award
If Starks were to win, it would be two straight years where a Bulldog wins this award as tight end Brock Bowers won it in 2021. The college football world will know the winner of the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
The actual presentation will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala in March of 2023. It will be held in Pennsylvania and hosted by the Mohegan Sun Resort. Hopefully, Starks will be in attendance to receive this award and represent Georgia Football to the masses.
